Chris Parker was raised on a vegetable farm in the Hawkesbury Valley.
After moving to the Hunter Valley with his wife Lorraine he owned and operated a coach tour business until 2003. They later became certified Organic Farmers at Buchanan.
Chris is President of Sweetwater Action Group who were successful in their court action against developers and State Planning in the Land and Environment Court.
Chris joined The Greens in 2006 and was elected to Cessnock City Council in 2008.
Renewable Energy has become his second passion and Chris is currently lobbying for all new subdivisions in Cessnock LGA to have solar street lighting.
Policies
The Hunter Greens are campaigning for:
- Comprehensive air quality monitoring around residential areas which are close to mining activities. The health of local residents must be priorities over the interests of big business.
- Greater protection for our rich agricultural land to make sure we can properly feed our growing population.
- An end to inappropriate development without adequate infrastructure.
- Asylum seekers to be treated with compassion and processed quickly and integrated into communities, not held expensive detention centres.
- The end to the expansion of coal mining. Investment in renewable technologies must be increased to create new employment.
- Increase funding to mental health and disability services

My idea of the future for the Hunter
First and foremost I believe that our right to vote should not be restricted by a preference system that denies us the right to make our own personal choice. Although the Greens have directed Senate preferences, I will be adopting an open ticket without preferences for the Hunter in the House of Representatives.
For too long, coal mining has wreaked havoc our agricultural landscape with profits going offshore and royalties and taxes going to the state and Federal Governments. Nobody seems to care for the people who live here suffering severe health problems, the disruption of our regional towns (i.e. Scone, a town split by a rail crossing saturated with coal trains) and severe degradation of the land and waterways. If elected I will campaign to halt any new coal mines in favour of Renewable Energy Projects and thus maintain employment opportunities for our residents as well as allocation of funds to repair the damage to our Valley.
Throughout the Hunter especially in the regional towns, all facets of our health has been neglected for too long and I will endeavour to have increased funding to maintain all areas of health.
The Hunter Valley in the past has been recognized as a vital source of our fresh food production. As a certified Organic Farmer, I am passionate about preserving our valuable agricultural land and it would be my intention to return the valley and its waterways to something we can leave for the future prosperity of the Valley.
