Temporary road closure options for Paynes Crossing Rd - Community Consultation

Date: 05-Nov-08
Author: Darren McKimm (Cessnock Council)

Temporary road closure options for Paynes Crossing Road from Williams Bridge to 700m south (towards Wollombi) for road construction works

NOTE: Submissions have now closed.

Council is inviting community input into the options for temporary closure to both traffic (including emergency vehicles) and pedestrians of Paynes Crossing Road near Williams Bridge to facilitate road widening and upgrading works.

A proposal to widen and reconstruct the gravel section of Paynes Crossing Road has been developed however construction works cannot be undertaken using routine traffic control measures due to safety concerns and site constraints. Several road closure options have been developed to help minimise the severity and duration of disruption to residents and the general community using this route.

Council invites feedback from affected residents and/or motorists/pedestrians on the following four (4) road closure options considered most feasible.

Please indicate your preferential support by placing number one (1) adjacent to your most preferred Option, number two (2) adjacent to your next preferred Option, and so on to number four (4) adjacent to your least preferred Option:-

Option A

  • Road closed between 9.30am and 2.30pm each week day and between 7.00am and 4.30pm Saturdays for approximately 10 weeks.
  • Construction works would be likely to commence in mid February 2009.

Option B

  • Road closed (24 hours) for the 2009 Easter school holidays (ie. 11/3 - 27/3 inclusive) but open Good Friday.
  • Road closed between 9.30am and 2.30pm each week day and between 7.00am and 4.30pm Saturdays after Easter school holidays for approximately a further 4 weeks.
  • Construction works would commence shortly before Easter.

Option C

  • Road closed (24 hours) for the 2009 Easter school holidays (ie. 11/3 - 27/3 inclusive) but open Good Friday .
  • Road closed between 7.00am and 4.30pm (Monday to Saturday inclusive) after Easter school holidays for approximately a further 2 weeks.
  • Construction works would commence shortly before Easter.

Option D (Amended)

  • Road closed for the 2009/2010 Christmas school holidays after Boxing Day ( ie. 27/12/09 - 25/1/10 inclusive).

  • Construction works would commence shortly before Christmas.

All responses need to be returned to Council no later than 5.00pm, Thursday 20th November 2008 to enable their consideration prior to reporting this matter to Council in early December, and subsequently to the Local Traffic Committee.

If you have any further queries on this project, please contact myself on 02 4993 4262 during office hours.
