Come along and enjoy a night of stimulating entertainment and ideas for the future of Cessnock City on Tuesday 23 February at the Community Performing Arts Centre commencing at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and entry is free.
The purpose of this exciting and stimulating debate is to raise awareness about the Cessnock 2020 Community Plan process and to stimulate community thinking about the future planning of Cessnock for the next 10 years.
The topic of the debate is "We should let the future of Cessnock look after itself" which should be both entertaining and an insightful event. Dr Bernie Curran Executive Officer, UON Foundation, University of Newcastle will be the moderator and high profile members of our community including Brian McGuigan AM will take part as debaters.

Council has on offer 16 scholarships for students from the Cessnock LGA. The scholarships are valued at $2,500 each for one year and could assist students with their finances during their studies. The closing date for applications is 26 February 2010.
The scholarships are on offer for students from Year 10 through to TAFE and University and there are a diverse range of scholarships which should appeal to all students.
Students must reside in the Cessnock LGA however if they have to move away for educational purposes they still qualify to apply ie Sydney University etc. They can also apply for more than one scholarship however if successful may take up only one scholarship.

Organisation for Seniors Week is full steam ahead with activities planned for your enjoyment which include come and try days, visits to Hunter Valley Gardens, bus trips, concerts and the Presentation Day where our Senior Citizen of the Year will be announced. Speaking of Senior Citizen of the Year, nominations are now available and can be collected from Kurri Kurri and Cessnock Libraries, Council's Administration office, Council's website www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au and applications close on 26 February.

The Cessnock Division of St John's Ambulance will be receiving the proceeds from Bimbadgen Estate who will be holding a Vintage Charity Ball on 13 March. This great generosity from Bimbadgen Estate will assist St John's Ambulance target to purchase an ambulance style patient retrieval vehicle.
St John's Ambulance service is a very important service to our community and the purchase of this vehicle will assist them greatly.
