This correspondent has been somewhat lax in reporting the progress of our own cricket team to date, so here's the season in a nutshell.

16 games won
2 games lost
2 games washed out

With 1 game to play we currently sit equal first with our archrivals The Railway Hotel. Both teams have lost 2 games a piece, with the head to head result being one game apiece and one washed out. All going well a likely encounter in the final should decide things. Before that however we have our last game of the regular season, to be held at Laguna Cricket Ground March 13th at 1pm, followed by a guaranteed spot in a sudden death semi-final the following week.

The season to date has seen the Laguna Village People continue it's consistent run with a series of easy wins and some not so easy. We have managed to get out of gaol a couple of time purely on the basis of a never say die attitude and some good bowling and catching. The main contributors with the ball and our leading wicket takers are Tim Williams (30) and Jack Bailey (29). There was some suggestion that Tim rest in the last roster game due to some persistent injuries, but that was rebuffed with the words "I'm not letting Jack Bailey get away from me". Nothing like a friendly rivalry to keep our opening bowlers motivated. Four players have recorded 5 wicket hauls Tim Williams, Steve Sullivan, Jack Bailey and Dennis Jackson.

Runs have been hard to come by with the uncovered turf wickets giving us all something to think about. Having said that five players have managed half centuries. Dennis Jackson (61, 52), Greg Kelso (61), Tim Reeks (58), Eamonn Smith (63) and Brendan Statts (52).

One statistic that needs special note is Dennis Jackson scoring a rare double, taking 5 wickets and scoring 50 runs in one match.

Our final game of the season is to be held at the Laguna Cricket Ground against Bellbird on Saturday 13th March. Start time 1pm.
