Supporting local surf and rescue
Since 2004 the EnergyAustralia Ducks 4 Dollars Australia Day event has raised more than $100,000 for the Hunter's Surf Clubs and the community's own Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
The cooperative fundraising event is held annually from 10.30am at Queens Wharf in Newcastle on Australia Day (26 January).
On the day two heats of adopted ducks are released into Newcastle Harbour where they bob and float with the tide across a 200 metre course for line honours and fantastic prizes generously provided by EnergyAustralia.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service
For over 30 years the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, working in collaboration with its emergency service partners has transported 20,000 people. This free service is provided because the community supports the Service through donations and in-kind contributions. By purchasing a duck, you will become part of this essential service which conducts over 3 missions a day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Hunter Surf Lifesaving
In the 101 years since Australian Surf Lifesaving was established, surf lifesavers have saved over 500,000 lives and given over 1.4billion hours of time. The Hunter's surflifesavers, repesented by the Branch's 13 Clubs from Hawkes Nest to Catherine Hill Bay continue to protect swimmers and surfers on the Hunter Coastline. There is a constant need for more and better rescue equipment.
