Good result for the Greens - Cessnock on a knife Edge

Greens Candidate for Cessnock said the NSW Election had seen yet another strengthening of votes for the Greens. At 8.5% we are pleased to have a good result for the Greens in Cessnock in an election in which many voters just wanted to vote for the Coalition.
Across NSW Greens have recorded our best ever result with 10.3% statewide in the lower house and a record 11% in the Upper House.
At this point The Greens will win a third place in the Upper house taking our representation to 5. Mayor of Byron Shire Jan Barham and Orange Councillor Jeremy Buckingham will join David Shoebridge in the Upper House (Jaohn Kaye and Cate Faehrmann were not up for re-election.
'Cessnock is not finally determined yet.' said Mr Ryan. 'However if the Labor Party win Cessnock with just 34% percent of the vote it will mean we have a local member who does not have the support of the local community.'
'Clearly with 24% of votes for Alison Davey and 20% for Dale Tray and 8% for the Greens a majority of residents in Cessnock did not want the Labor Party re-elected.'
'The Labor Party campaign at the polling booths to encourage voters to just Vote 1 and not pass preference was not illegal but it was immoral. The Labor party workers at polling booths were not clearly identified at Labor party workers and many people did not realise that having voters not indicate a 2nd or 3rd preference would have the likely result of keeping Labor in Cessnock.'
'It is yet another black mark for Labor and its treatment of the local community.'
