For Foggy Mountain Jam 2010, see here

Foggy Mountain Jam was a huge success, packed with kids and great music.

The wines from Hope Estate were great, the food (with proceeds to Laguna Public School) was great and the music was jamtastic!

A highlight for me was Kasey singing a personal favourite and relatively unknown song (here anyway) - Bonnie Raitt and John Pine's "Angel From Montgomery" - I'll bet that isn't in the regular repertoire again, along with some other "farm songs" from the Chambers' family.

Add to that the classic, individual vocal power of Kasey Chambers, dad Bill's incredibly versatile string work on many instruments, Troy Cassar-Daley and Shane Howard's intricate guitar, vocals  and melodies, Jim Moginie doing some lovely work (including Beds are Burning) and Shane Nicholson (alone and with with Kasey) is always magic.

The sound mix was perfect both from from the back of the crowd and from the "Oshkosh B'gosh" pit in front of the stage (many many kids)...

See the photo gallery for some photos from the evening...

Thanks so much to Veronica and Nash Chambers for allowing us onto their place for this event and to everyone else involved.

A great evening was had by all in the Gibson Carpenter clan. As relative new chums to Murrays run we were very excited to attend, what turned out to be, a fabulous evening and hope to see similar events in the future. One thing I noticed and that was the very unusual sight of trails of motor vehicles, lights blazing, snacking along the run later that evening as folk made their way home. When the next day the traffic continued, I became curious to find out the cause. Apparently there was a serious motor bike accident near the observatory along the Great Northern road. Serious enough to have traffic divert along Murrays run for several hours on Sunday afternoon. Despite much searching of local and major news sources I have been unable to read anything about it and was wondering if anyone might be able to report here what happened?

Hi Robert,

As far as I have been told there was yet another fatal motorcycle accident between Koolang and Murrays Run on Sunday.

It's time for speed cameras and a 'bike deaths this year' sign and whatever else we can throw at that stretch of road to stop this catastrophic death of young and far too brave bikers happening on those corners. The speed limit and advisory speed signage isn't working.

I feel for the local Police and Fire Brigade personnel that have to deal with the situation, as well as the life lost in such a tragic accident.

There is far more trauma than the victim and their family at stake here.

Unfortunately there isn't much media coverage of the area. The Cessnock Advertiser is aptly named and does little else but advertise, and that is pretty much the extent of local media.

When the 'Blessing of the Bikes' returns, I'll make sure we lobby for harsh signage if not very strict speed cameras on that stretch of road, to slow the bikers (and I'm one of them) down.
