Dear Convict Trail Friends and Supporters,
Working bees
As the end of the financial year approaches I need to hold some working bees to provide, through voluntary labour, our matching dollars for the dollar for dollar grant I have had.
This is a chance to see Clares Bridge.
We will be cutting and clearing vegetation. Secateurs and handsaws and paint on plant poison for the larger plants.
I have some unmatched funding left in a grant that has to be used by the end of May. We need 100s of tons of fill to repair the road between Clares Bridge and Mt Manning. For each person that comes to the working bees it is a few more tons of fill I can purchase ready for the next lot of road works. If I get enough volunteers I make be able to have enough funds to divert the second creek headwaters that is washing out the road between Mt Manning and Circuit Flat bridge. We diverted the main section of the creek yesterday by hand with sandbags but there is a second collection of water that will take more work to divert and will need a small machine.
I am holding working bees Monday and Tuesday 19 and 20 May and if there are volunteers on Saturday and or Sunday 24th and or 25th May.
Our voluntary workers insurance covers volunteers from 10 to 95 years.
If you don't have tools I can supply some.
If anyone has a chainsaw they are trained to used could they bring that as well. We removed the biggest trees last year but it is always useful to have a chain saw along. Bring the receipt for the petrol and chain sharpening etc.
Access is better by 4WD or high clearance vehicles. I would have some space in my vehicle.
To get to the area where we have to work we need to go in from Mangrove Mountain.
Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering. I will provide lunch.
Regards Elizabeth Roberts
