OPPORTUNITY for ASSISTANCE to CONTROL WOODY WEEDS in RIPARIAN AREAS

There is a strong possibility of assistance for landholders by a team of trained workers to control serious infestations of woody weeds on the Wollombi Brook this spring, targeting weeds like Tree of Heaven and Privet. This will be coordinated by a regional agency.

Landholders interested should leave their contact details and address for WVLG

Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW Announced

The NSW Government announced details of a new Solar Bonus Scheme for NSW on 23 June, 2009.

The solar net feed-in tariff scheme means that households with solar panels will now be paid for any excess electricity they generate and which is pumped back into the grid. Under the 20-year plan residents, plus some schools, small businesses and community groups will be paid 60 cents per kilowatt hour that they feed into the grid - four times the average cost of electricity. The scheme will begin 1 January 2010 and apply to solar systems up to 10 kilowatts in size.

The new Solar Bonus Scheme is the most generous of any State in Australia, apart from the ACT.

The Scheme balances support for solar PV systems with costs which will flow on to all electricity consumers.

NSW Government objectives for the Scheme

  • Encourage and support people who want to act on climate change by generating renewable energy locally
  • Build the State's green collar jobs sector, by helping solar technology compete with non-renewable energy sources
  • Expand the visibility of renewable energy technologies to help motivate the whole community in responding to climate change

For more information on the scheme, visit the NSW Department of Water and Energy, at www.dwe.nsw.gov.au/energy/sustain_renew_fit.shtml
