The recent Second Hand Saturday Collection/drop off at Weston Workers Club was very successful with Hunter Resource Recovery collecting 10450 kilos of ewaste from 357 vehicles.  It was a great result for Cessnock LGA with 201 more visitors attending and an additional 2890 kilos of e-waste collected compared to the first collection as well as the 1159 kilos of Life Cycle product making the total collected in 3 hours of 11,609 kilos.  Another drop off event is scheduled for February 2010; it will be a great opportunity after Christmas to recycle the old computer, electric toys and gadgets.  To all who participated a great effort.

Council has been successful in obtaining grants from the Federal Government to the value of $139,000 to enhance our cycle paths within our LGA under the National Bike Paths Project.  The grants will assist Council in expanding the Millfield footpath into a multipurpose pathway and provide an extension to the Vineyard off road cycleway along McDonalds Road to Oakey Creek intersection.  This is good news for Council as it enables these projects to proceed.
