The Mannering Park community are the latest to launch their Community Geographic Domain Name website. Mannering Park is a small township located on an isolated peninsular on the southern shores of Australia's largest salt water lake, Lake Macquarie in New South Wales.
Website Co-ordinator Andrew Whitbourne said until the site was made available, the community had little means of staying in touch with the goings on in the area and no directory of community groups and organisations. "The creation of the Mannering Park community website will allow community groups to advertise their existence and also allow the wider community to learn what groups exist, their roles in the community, and the means to be able to make initial contact. The site also allows community groups to advertise any upcoming events which will allow wider community participation."
Mr. Whitbourne said that the website will be pivotal in communicating local history to the community. Until recently, historically significant information has been held by a variety of sources and now the website will allow a co-ordinated approach to presenting historical information to the community. As well as bringing the history of the community together Mr. Whitbourne foresees the Mannering Park website bringing the community closer together. "The ultimate hope for the community site is that we see a more socially integrated and inclusive community where individuals are able to easily lend assistance, as the need arises, in areas of their interest."
