The Cessnock 2020 Community Workshops have generated many ideas and I encourage residents to attend the last of the 2020 Community Workshops being held at Mulbring on Wednesday 17 March at the Mulbring Community Hall and at Millfield on Thursday 18 March at Millfield Community Hall.  However if you were not able to attend the workshops there are other ways to have your say.  You can either participate in the online forum at www.focusonourfuture.com.au or leave a message on our Cessnock 2020 hotline by phoning 4993 4330.

I recently attended the launch of the Hunter Multicultural Friendship Group (Cessnock Branch) at Cessnock Community Performing Arts Centre.  In 2009 a need was identified within the Cessnock LGA to establish a support network for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities. In response to this need, Krinent Singh, Social Worker, Cessnock Hospital (Hunter New England Area Health Service) Rose Oku, (Northern Settlement Services) and Natalie Drage (Cessnock City Council) were instrumental in establishing the Hunter Valley Multicultural Friendship Group, Cessnock Branch.  For further information on the Group contact Natalie Drage on 4993 4118.

It was pleasing to see Cessnock Show succeed in 2010 and I wish to thank the community businesses who sponsored and the residents who attended the Show during the two days.  I believe the camel race was very entertaining on the Friday evening in which Councillor Pynsent participated.

Local primary school students participated in the Drawing 2020 competition, drawing what they would like the Cessnock LGA to look like in the year 2020.  The drawings were imaginative and the judging panel found it very difficult to come to their final decisions.

The winners were two students from Weston Public School, Caitlin Stewart and Thea Belle Pryor and Joven Hodge from St Patrick's Cessnock each awarded $100 and were presented a certificate.  Congratulations to all the students who entered.
